Mono Mono is een intieme, zintuiglijke voorstelling waarin geluid, waarneming en persoonlijke ervaring centraal staan. In een kleine tent, midden in de drukte van een festival of publieke ruimte, worden bezoekers uitgenodigd om hun omgeving op een nieuwe manier te beleven.
Met behulp van een koptelefoon en eenvoudige, fysieke handelingen verschuift de relatie tussen horen en zien. Geluiden uit de omgeving worden uitvergroot, losgetrokken en opnieuw ervaren. Wat normaal vanzelfsprekend is, wordt voelbaar: hoe we voortdurend verbonden zijn met wat ons omringt.
Performers Shanti Straub en Steven Hooi nemen het publiek mee in een geconcentreerde, gedeelde ervaring waarin aandacht, verbeelding en aanwezigheid centraal staan. Mono Mono is geen verhaal dat verteld wordt, maar een ervaring die ontstaat tussen performer, publiek en omgeving.
Reacties variëren van emotioneel tot hilarisch. Het rumoer is elk moment van de dag anders, en daarmee verandert ook de voorstelling telkens opnieuw.

Mono Mono
Mono Mono is an intimate, site-responsive sensory performance exploring the relationship between sound, perception, and presence. Set within a small mirrored tent placed in the midst of a festival or public space, the work invites audiences to re-experience their environment through a carefully guided shift in attention.
Using headphones and minimal performative actions, the piece subtly disrupts the natural connection between seeing and hearing. Everyday sounds are isolated, reframed, and reintroduced, making the audience aware of how perception is constructed in real time. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, Mono Mono creates a shared situation in which meaning emerges through the interaction between performer, audience, and surroundings.
Performed by Shanti Straub and Steven Hooi, the work balances precision and openness, allowing each iteration to be shaped by the specific context in which it is presented. Audience responses range from deeply reflective to unexpectedly playful.
Because the surrounding soundscape is never the same, each performance is inherently unique and responsive to its environment.
